The Bhima Koregaon incident, a symbol of valor against caste discrimination, was commemorated at Ambedkar Chowk in Narnur Mandal on the occasion of the 206th Shaurya Diwas. Speaking at the event, State Secretary of Sarpanches’ Association, Sri Banoth Gajanand Naik, highlighted the significance of the battle fought in Bhima Koregaon village, Maharashtra.

Gajanand Naik described how 500 soldiers from Mahar and allied communities courageously defeated 28,000 Peshwa soldiers, thereby freeing their communities from oppression. He stressed the importance of remembering and drawing inspiration from their bravery, emphasizing the pride in celebrating Shaurya Diwas on January 1 each year.

The event began with the hoisting of the Panchrangi Dhwaja (five-colored flag) and floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar’s statue by Brijulal Garu. Gajanand Naik reiterated that the Bhima Koregaon battle stands as a testament to resistance against socio-economic suppression and a landmark moment in the fight for equality.

The program was attended by several dignitaries, including former ZPTC Hemalatha Brijulal, Congress Party Mandal President Devarao Lokhande, educationist and junior lecturer Balaji Kamble, PASC Director Kantha Rao, BJP Executive Committee Member Chalurkar Prakash, Panchayat Secretary Motiram, Lokhande Chandrashekhar, Pundalik Chalurkar, and Anna Bhavu Sathe Association President Mahender.

Other notable attendees included Vittal, Auto Union President Feroze Khan, Durge Keshav, Ramesh Vijay, Namdev, Sunil, Dayanand, Jhade Bhim Rao, along with Buddhist devotees and local women, who participated enthusiastically in honoring the legacy of Bhima Koregaon warriors.
