The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi) has launched its Certificate Programme in Generative AI under its Continuing Education Programme (CEP). This six-month executive training programme aims to equip professionals with essential competencies in AI, focusing on addressing India's talent gap in the field and fostering industrial innovation and leadership.
According to PwC, AI could contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030, surpassing the combined economic output of China and India. Generative AI holds immense potential for economic growth in India. A recent EY report estimates that deploying Generative AI could boost India's GDP by an additional $359 to $438 billion, representing a 5.9% to 7.2% increase by 2029-30.
Recognizing this potential, the Indian government has allocated Rs 10,300 crore to building a robust AI ecosystem. Initiatives include IndiaAI Compute Capacity, Innovation Centres, and Datasets Platforms. Despite this investment, 72% of companies still report skill shortages in AI, data analytics, and cybersecurity, highlighting the urgent need for upskilling.
The Certificate Programme in Generative AI offers a comprehensive curriculum, focusing on advanced AI techniques and tools, including Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT, BERT, and T5. Key topics include Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF), Vision-Language Models (VLMs), and responsible AI practices. The programme features six specialized modules:
- Mathematical Foundations for ML
- Machine Learning
- Natural Language Processing
- Generative AI for Text
- Generative AI for Vision
- Responsible AI
Participants will gain hands-on experience with tools such as Python, NumPy, Pandas, PyTorch, TensorFlow, NLTK, and spaCy for advanced AI and data processing tasks.
Professor Tanmoy Chakraborty, Associate Professor at IIT Delhi's Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence, highlighted the programme's significance, stating, "This certificate equips professionals with future-ready skills, enabling India to become a global AI hub. Generative AI will play a pivotal role in reshaping industries and driving meaningful change."
Graduates will be prepared for roles like AI Research Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, NLP Engineer, and Generative AI Specialist, with applications spanning sectors like healthcare, finance, education, and autonomous systems.
Delivered via live online sessions in a Direct-to-Device (D2D) format, the programme also includes industry-relevant case studies, simulations, and projects. A one-day campus immersion at IIT Delhi offers participants a unique opportunity to experience the institution's academic and research excellence firsthand.
