Deccan Freedom News, Hyderabad:

The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) Telangana committee has raised objections to the State government’s decision to replace the Grade Point Average (GPA) system with marks-based assessment for SSC Public Exams. The SFI argued that this change could increase inequalities and pressure among students.

SFI state president RL Murthy and general secretary T Nagaraju expressed concerns that marks-based assessments could lead to unhealthy competition. They fear that students might prioritize enrolling in corporate and private institutions to secure higher marks and ranks, further widening the gap between students from different socio-economic backgrounds.

The committee also pointed out that students have already completed two formative assessments and one summative assessment under the existing system. They argued that introducing changes with only 90 days left for the exams would cause confusion and stress for students.

The SFI suggested that any such reform be implemented from the next academic year to allow students and educators sufficient time to adapt to the new evaluation system. They emphasized that the welfare and preparation of students should be prioritized in policymaking.
