The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, regarded as a crown jewel for Andhra Pradesh, has been revived through the relentless efforts of the NDA government, said Tirupati Parliamentary TDP President G. Narasimha Yadav during a press conference at the Tirupati Press Club on Tuesday. He revealed that the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a financial package of ₹11,440 crore to rejuvenate the plant.

Speaking on the occasion, Narasimha Yadav criticized Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, stating, “While Jagan Reddy prioritizes personal gains during his Delhi visits, Chandrababu Naidu is making tireless efforts to secure funds for the state’s development.” He further claimed that Jagan had earlier proposed privatizing the plant, but Chandrababu is steadfast in his commitment to preserving Visakhapatnam Steel Plant for the benefit of Andhra Pradesh.

Highlighting the plant’s significance, he noted that it has an annual production capacity of 7.3 million tonnes of steel but was burdened with debts due to the negligence of previous governments. The NDA government, upon coming to power, focused on reviving both the plant and the development of the North Andhra region. Yadav explained that ₹18,000 crore was required to overcome the financial crisis, and during Union Steel Minister Kumaraswamy’s visit to Visakhapatnam, TDP leaders, including State President Palla Srinivas Rao and MP Bharat, secured an immediate release of ₹1,650 crore.

Criticizing Jagan’s governance, Yadav alleged that the Chief Minister’s trips to Delhi were solely for personal gains rather than for the welfare of the state. He praised Chandrababu Naidu for his dedication to the revival of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, stating it as a testament to TDP’s commitment to the state’s progress.

The press meet was attended by key Telugu Desam Party leaders who reiterated their commitment to protecting the state’s resources and ensuring Andhra Pradesh’s growth.
