Tirupati Police Seize Marijuana Worth ₹25.5 Lakhs, Arrest Six Smugglers

Tirupati district police successfully apprehended six marijuana smugglers in two separate operations, seizing over 100 kilograms of the drug, with an estimated total value of ₹25.5 lakhs. The operation involved arrests from Tamil Nadu and Puttur, and police recovered three cars used in the drug trade. Among the arrested was K. Sharukh Khan, a known criminal involved in previous murder and NDPS cases.

In the Tad police station limits, based on confidential information, a team led by CI Murali Krishna and SI Kondappa Naidu intercepted two suspects attempting to transport marijuana to Chennai. The suspects revealed that they had procured the drug from suppliers in Tamil Nadu. In total, the police arrested K. Sharukh Khan and G. Arul, both from Gummadipundi, Tamil Nadu.

In a separate operation at Chilakaluripet, four individuals were arrested with 72 kilograms of marijuana, valued at ₹16 lakh, along with two cars. The smugglers, who had purchased the drug from Kakinada district, were attempting to sell it in Chennai and Gummadipundi. Despite attempting to flee, the swift actions of the Chilakaluripet police led to their capture.

District SP Sri L. Subbarayudu praised the police team for their efforts and reiterated the department’s commitment to cracking down on the illegal drug trade. He urged the public to report any information related to illicit activities and provided contact details for the helpdesk.
