The historic Prasanna Venkateshwara Swamy temple in Nindra is nearing completion, thanks to the dedicated efforts of former minister R.K. Roja. The temple’s reconstruction has been a long-cherished dream of the locals, with the idol of Prasanna Venkateshwara, along with the idols of Bhudevi, Sridevi, and Garutmanta, arriving at the temple. Rituals were conducted in accordance with tradition as the idols were placed in the temple.
The once-dilapidated temple, which had been in a state of disrepair for decades, is now coming to life with its new construction. In a remarkable feat, the former minister secured ₹1.70 crores in funding from TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams) for the temple’s restoration. A ground-breaking ceremony was held in August 2023, and the construction work has been progressing rapidly ever since. The temple is set to undergo a grand Kumbabhishekam ceremony soon.
In a significant discovery during excavation work, five Panchaloha idols were found and safely moved to the treasury, while a large stone idol was relocated to the Chennai Museum by the Department of Archaeology. The efforts to restore the temple, which had long been neglected, were driven by the persistent requests of the people of Nindra, who sought to bring back the temple’s former glory.
Former minister R.K. Roja’s unwavering commitment to the temple’s reconstruction has won widespread admiration. Her initiative to secure funds and expedite the construction process has ensured that the temple, once a symbol of neglect, is now a shining beacon of devotion and pride for the villagers.
