Strict Measures to Curb Begging in Nirmal District: Collector Abhilasha Abhinav

NIRMAL, Dec 28:
Nirmal District Collector Abhilasha Abhinav has directed officials to take stringent measures to curb begging in the district, effective from January 1. On Saturday, she, along with Additional Collector of Local Bodies Faizan Ahmad, visited the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) office to review the initiatives undertaken by the committee, including the prevention of child marriages and the identification of orphaned children.
During the visit, the Collector emphasized the strict enforcement of the Anti-Begging Act. She instructed officials to identify beggars at key intersections in towns and relocate them to rehabilitation centers. These centers are to provide shelter, food, education, self-employment opportunities, and skill development training to rehabilitate individuals involved in begging.
The Collector also stressed the importance of creating widespread public awareness to discourage begging and warned that strict action would be taken against those encouraging it. Special teams, in collaboration with the police department, will be formed to enforce these measures.
Additionally, the Collector called for strict steps to prevent child marriages in the district. She warned that stringent action would be taken against individuals involved in conducting or promoting child marriages.
The program saw the participation of Child Protection Officer Murali, CWC members, officials, staff, and others.
