No Proposals Yet for Jakran Palli Airport: Minister Muralidhar Mohol Responds in Lok Sabha

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol informed the Lok Sabha that the Telangana government has not submitted any proposals to the central government for site approval for the construction of a greenfield airport at Jakran Palli in Nizamabad district. The response came during a question posed by Nizamabad MP Arvind on Thursday.

Mohol clarified that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had earlier conducted a feasibility study at six locations in Telangana at the state’s request, including a brownfield site in Warangal and Adilabad districts and a greenfield site at Jakran Palli. The study found airport construction feasible at these locations. However, the AAI advised the Telangana government to conduct an Obstacle Limitation Services (OLS) survey and seek approvals from the Central Civil Aviation Department and other statutory bodies. The lack of progress on these steps has stalled further development.

MP Arvind met Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu to discuss the delay. Minister Naidu reiterated that the Telangana government had not submitted the necessary proposals or completed the OLS survey, which has been pending for years. Following the meeting, Arvind issued a statement urging the state government to expedite the process, emphasizing that completing the OLS survey could pave the way for airport construction. He criticized former CM KCR and current CM Revanth Reddy for the prolonged delay and called on PCC Chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, Sudarshan Reddy, and local MLA Bhupathi Reddy to take immediate action in sending proposals to the Center.

Arvind expressed hope that once the state government takes the necessary steps, Jakran Palli could soon see flights operational, boosting connectivity and development in the region.
