Mulugu, December 31:
The Mulugu District Superintendent of Police, Dr. Shabarish P. IPS, presented an overview of the district police department’s accomplishments and strategies for crime control during the Annual Press Meet. The event highlighted key achievements in crime reduction, enforcement initiatives, and public safety measures implemented throughout 2024.
Comparing statistics with the previous year, the SP revealed that crime rates had increased in 2024, but significant progress was made in securing convictions against offenders. A major highlight was the integration of 375 CCTV cameras into a central Command and Control Room, facilitating better crime prevention and investigation.
Visible policing played a crucial role in intercepting illegal transportation of PDS rice, sand, and marijuana. Notably, 59 kilograms of marijuana were seized during the year. The SP emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards FIR registrations, ensuring no bias in handling complaints.
In 2024, the district registered 2,148 cases compared to 1,597 in 2023. However, rape cases declined compared to the previous year. The police successfully managed events like Medaram Jatara and parliamentary elections without disturbances, including in Maoist-affected areas. The SP credited meticulous planning and execution for ensuring peace during these critical periods.
Public awareness campaigns were conducted to educate citizens and students on cybercrimes. Initiatives like the Bharoosa Centre and preventive measures at accident-prone areas helped in reducing road mishaps. As part of anti-drug awareness efforts, youth cricket and volleyball tournaments were organized, highlighting the harmful effects of drug use.
The SP praised the police department’s efforts in safeguarding the community and maintaining law and order. Additional SPs Shivam Upadhyay and Sadanandam, DSPs Ravinder and Kishore Kumar, and other officials attended the press meet.
