In a significant health initiative, SVIMS organized free cancer screening camps on Thursday at Ramapuram Village Secretariat and Vengalattur Village Health Clinic in the Pichatur PHC jurisdiction. These camps are part of a state government directive to enhance cancer awareness and provide early diagnosis. With the support of the District Medical and Health Department, mobile Pink Buses facilitated the screenings across Tirupati district.
The camps provided free medical services, including BP and sugar level tests, oral cancer screenings for men and women, and mammogram tests for breast cancer in women. A large number of people attended the camps, availing themselves of the free services aimed at detecting cancer at an early stage.
As part of the ongoing initiative, additional camps have been scheduled in Narayanavanam and nearby villages. Upcoming dates include January 17 in Thumburu and Palamangalam, January 20 in Aranyam Kandrigai and Keelagarum, January 21 in Kashimitta and Venkatakrishna Palem, January 23 in Bheemuni Cheruvu and Narayanavanam-3, January 24 in Erikambattu and Narayanavanam-2, and January 27 in Kondalacheruvu.
The event witnessed participation from key officials, including Dr. Hamid, Pichatur Medical Officer, and SVIMS Medical Officers Dr. Haritha and Dr. Chaitanya Bhanu. Local leaders such as MPTC Babyamma, sarpanches Sumathi and Annadurai, Panchayat Secretaries P. Poornima and Madhavi, and ANMs S. Hepzibah and C. Kalpana extended their support. The medical staff, Anganwadi workers, and ASHA workers also played a crucial role in organizing the camps effectively.
The initiative reflects a proactive approach to public health, aiming to reduce cancer-related morbidity by promoting early detection and awareness. Such efforts underscore the commitment of SVIMS and the district administration to delivering essential healthcare services to rural communities.
