Amaravati: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held a review meeting on Wednesday at the Secretariat regarding the implementation of WhatsApp Governance services in the state. The government is set to launch these services for citizens from Thursday. In the first phase, 161 services will be made available to the public.
During the review meeting, officials gave a presentation to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, explaining how citizens can opt for services via WhatsApp. The CM was briefed about the process and the option selections for users. More services will be made available in the second phase.
The first phase will cover services from various departments including Endowments, Energy, APSRTC, Revenue, Anna Canteen, CM Relief Fund (CMRF), Municipal services, and more, offering a total of 161 services. This marks the first time in India that WhatsApp Governance is being implemented on such a large scale, bringing an end to the days when citizens had to physically visit government offices to access services.
The Chief Minister highlighted that this move will make the process of governance and delivery of government services faster and more accessible. He also emphasized the importance of safeguarding citizens’ information to prevent cybercrimes, directing officials to remain vigilant and strengthen forensic and cyber security measures.
The government entered into an agreement with Meta in October 2022 to offer services via WhatsApp. This initiative aligns with the state’s efforts to position Andhra Pradesh as a leader in digital technology and improve the delivery of governance services to citizens.
On Thursday, Minister for IT and Education Nara Lokesh will officially launch WhatsApp Governance services. The review meeting also saw the participation of Chief Secretary K. Vijay Anand and other senior officials.
