Telangana:Unemployed Youth Plan Statewide Protests Against Congress Government’s Unfulfilled Promises

Hyderabad: Expressing their anger over unfulfilled promises of jobs and unemployment allowances made by the Congress government, unemployed youth and Group-I aspirants have resolved to launch statewide protests, including padayatras and bus yatras, starting in December.

Unemployed Youth Joint Action Committee (JAC) leader A. Janardhan, addressing the media on Tuesday, said the youth are determined to expose what they see as the Congress government’s betrayal of the unemployed. The protests aim to create awareness among citizens about the alleged discrepancies in the Congress party’s pre-election commitments.

Janardhan highlighted the Congress’s youth declaration, announced by Priyanka Gandhi, which promised two lakh government jobs and unemployment allowances. However, he alleged that instead of fulfilling these promises, the government has implemented policies like GO 29, which, according to him, undermine reservation rules and disadvantage reserved category candidates.

Janardhan criticized the Congress government for tweaking the rules of reservation after the notification for 503 Group-I posts, a move he said violates a recent Supreme Court ruling led by former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, which prohibits altering recruitment rules post-notification. He expressed hope that the High Court, set to hear the case on Wednesday, would strike down GO 29.

The JAC leader also questioned why the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) canceled the Group-I notification entirely instead of following the High Court’s directive to re-conduct the examination due to issues with biometric attendance.

Group-I aspirant Indra Naik added that the Congress party, which once rallied unemployed youth under the promise of justice, has now become a “curse” for the jobless. He claimed that GO 29 has caused significant harm to candidates from reserved categories and demanded its immediate repeal.

Naik also accused the Congress government of exaggerating its job creation claims, asserting that the majority of the 50,000 posts cited were actually notified under the previous BRS government.

The unemployed youth vowed to visit every household in Telangana, from Adilabad to Khammam, to raise awareness about what they termed as the Congress government’s betrayal. The padayatras and bus yatras are expected to intensify the pressure on the state government to address the grievances of the unemployed.
