Puttur

In MD Puttur village of YMD Puttur, located in the Sri Kalahasti constituency, residents are grappling with a severe issue: the lack of a cremation ground. The village, which does not have a designated burial ground, has relied on the banks of the Swarnamukhi River for last rites. However, recent heavy rains have increased the river’s water flow, making it unsafe for cremation ceremonies.

On Thursday, a local woman, Chinta Puttalamma (98 years old), passed away, and the family attempted to perform the last rites on Friday morning at the riverbank. Unfortunately, the rising water level made it impossible to cross the river, causing immense difficulty for the family and relatives. They were unable to perform the rites properly and were left in a helpless situation.

Villagers expressed their distress, stating that during the monsoon season, there is a risk of bodies being left in the river due to the inaccessible nature of the riverbanks. They called for immediate action from local authorities to resolve this issue and provide the village with a proper burial ground, so they no longer have to face such hardship during the final rites of their loved ones.

The villagers have requested officials and local leaders to address this pressing concern and bring relief from their difficulties.
