Immediate Investigation Demanded into the Death of Staff Nurse at MCH”

Deccan Freedom News, Karimnagar, December 4:

The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has demanded an immediate investigation into the untimely death of Samatha, a contract staff nurse working at the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) in Karimnagar. DYFI District Secretary G. Tirupati urged the state government to ascertain the reasons behind her death and provide justice to the grieving family.

Samatha, a resident of Gundiramaram village in Ramadugu mandal and a long-time employee of the hospital for the past eight years, was reported to have passed away suddenly on duty at 8 PM. Her family, including her husband Thirumal, has raised suspicions about her demise, calling for a thorough probe.

Tirupati criticized the lack of safety for employees working in government hospitals, questioning the state’s capacity to ensure proper healthcare if hospital staff themselves face such risks. “This tragic incident highlights the challenges within the system, particularly the overburdening of nursing staff due to insufficient doctors during critical night shifts,” he remarked.

The DYFI District Committee has demanded the state government provide an ex gratia of ₹25 lakhs and offer a government job to a member of Samatha’s family. Tirupati also called for forming a fact-finding committee to investigate the circumstances of her death and ensure justice.

Highlighting systemic issues, he stressed the need to appoint a sufficient number of doctors to handle night shifts effectively. “The current shortage of medical personnel results in undue pressure on nursing staff, compromising both staff safety and patient care,” he stated. Tirupati further urged the government to deploy at least ten doctors on night shifts to prevent such incidents in the future.

Joining Tirupati in his demands were Girin Sangham Urban Secretary G. Ravinder Naik, leaders Raju, Rajesh, and others, who expressed solidarity with the family and called for immediate action.
