Fulfill Justice for B.Ed Aspirants by Revising Recruitment Policies: Telangana B.Ed Candidates’ Appeal

Hyderabad, December 5,2024

The Telangana B.Ed Aspirants’ Association has appealed to Graduate MLC Jeevan Reddy to address the long-standing recruitment disparities in the filling of School Assistant (S.A.) posts. During a press briefing held on Thursday, the association emphasized the need for 100% direct recruitment for vacant School Assistant positions through notifications, ensuring opportunities for B.Ed graduates. They also urged for the upcoming DSC notification in February 2025 to include at least 8,000 S.A. posts.

The association highlighted the injustice caused by the current system, which reserves 70% of S.A. posts for promotion from Secondary Grade Teachers (SGT), leaving only 30% for direct recruitment. This approach has resulted in minimal vacancies for B.Ed candidates, with some districts having no posts available. They criticized this policy as a remnant of decisions made during the undivided Andhra Pradesh era, which prioritized certain groups at the expense of B.Ed aspirants.

According to the association, Telangana has over five lakh B.Ed graduates, many of whom face bleak prospects due to the dual limitations of being ineligible for SGT posts and having minimal opportunities in S.A. recruitment. Despite the 2024 DSC notification announcing 11,062 posts, only 2,620 were allocated for S.A. roles, a glaring disparity considering the significant number of B.Ed-qualified candidates. The association pointed out that Andhra Pradesh is setting a precedent by planning to fill 100% of its S.A. vacancies through direct recruitment.

The Telangana B.Ed Aspirants’ Association called upon MLC Jeevan Reddy to champion their cause by urging the state government to adopt fair recruitment policies. They demanded that all S.A. posts be filled through direct recruitment and that the upcoming DSC notification ensures equitable opportunities for B.Ed candidates. They also requested the government to rectify these systemic issues to secure the future of aspiring teachers in Telangana.

The appeal was signed by key representatives of the association, including Bhukya Ashok Naik, Kashetti Satyanarayana, and Rajasekhar, who vowed to continue their fight for justice and equal opportunities.
