Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) working in tribal welfare residential schools and hostels under the Tribal Welfare Department protested on Tuesday at Prajabhavan, demanding the release of their 11 months pending salaries. The protest was organized under the leadership of the Tribal Welfare Outsourcing Employees Union (CITU).
Planning Commission Vice Chairman G. Chennareddy and State Nodal Officer for Public Administration Divya Devarajan, IAS, held discussions with the protesting ANMs. They assured the protesters that the pending salaries would be cleared within 20 days. The ANMs expressed their struggles, stating that they have been working tirelessly for 24 hours but are facing severe hardships due to non-payment of salaries.
CITU State Secretary K. Brahmachari criticized the Tribal Welfare Department for neglecting the employees’ issues and demanded that salaries be paid immediately. He emphasized that ANMs play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of tribal students and that it is unacceptable for the government to ignore their problems. The union also demanded that salaries be paid in the first week of every month and that PF and ESI benefits be implemented effectively.
Divya Devarajan assured the ANMs that she had already spoken to officials from the Finance and Tribal Welfare Departments and that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure the release of pending salaries within the promised timeframe.
The protest saw participation from leaders and activists, including CITU Adilabad District Secretary E. Kiran, Asifabad District CITU President R. Rajender, and several ANMs, including Swaroopa, Rajamani, Jayashree, and others. The leaders urged the government to respect the dedication of the ANMs and ensure timely resolution of their issues to maintain trust and commitment within the workforce.
