A monthly District Road Safety Committee Meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of District Collector Venkatesh Dothre IAS at the District Collectorate office. The meeting was attended by District SP DV Srinivas Rao IPS, senior officials from various departments, National Highway Authority representatives, R&B engineers, and Panchayati Raj road officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector reviewed the road accident data from the previous month and analyzed the causes behind them. He emphasized that adhering to basic road safety standards can significantly reduce accidents. He suggested measures such as enforcing speed limits, using speed guns to monitor and penalize over-speeding, and ensuring that drivers carry necessary vehicle documents, including driving licenses.
The SP highlighted that 45 black spots have been identified across the district, with 70% of fatal accidents occurring on national highways due to overspeeding and negligent driving. He stressed installing speed breakers near educational institutions and removing unnecessary ones to streamline traffic. He advised drivers to always follow traffic rules, wear helmets, and avoid wrong-route driving.
Special focus was placed on avoiding parking on highways, ensuring proper parking spaces to prevent traffic disruptions, and keeping livestock off roads to avoid accidents, especially at night. The SP also warned that parents allowing minors to drive will face legal action. Regular vehicle checks, including enforcement against drunk driving and rash driving, will continue as part of road safety initiatives.
