Protect Farmers from Middlemen: CPM Submits Memorandum to DRO
Deccan Freedom News
Komaram Bheem, December 5,
The CPM party, under the leadership of district secretary Kushna Rajanna, submitted a memorandum to the District Revenue Officer (DRO), urging immediate action to protect cotton and paddy farmers from exploitation by middlemen. Farmers across Komaram Bheem district are being coerced into selling their crops at significantly lower prices, with middlemen purchasing cotton at ₹500 to ₹700 less per quintal than the market rate. The memorandum highlighted that unauthorized cotton collection centers are operating unchecked, further exacerbating the issue.
CPM leaders emphasized that the negligence of marketing and measurement officials is compounding the farmers’ losses, as inspections at purchasing centers are either inadequate or entirely absent. This has emboldened middlemen, who are taking advantage of the situation to exploit farmers and pocket profits unjustly. The CPM demanded strict measures to curb middlemen activities and called for the government to directly procure crops at Minimum Support Prices (MSP) to ensure justice for the farming community.
District secretary Kushna Rajanna, along with committee members Durgam Dinakar, Munjam Anand Kumar, Rajender, and Karthik, participated in the event. They reiterated the need for immediate government intervention to safeguard farmers from further financial losses and middlemen exploitation.
