NALGONDA DECEMBER 18

Nalgonda: District Collector Ila Tripathi called upon healthcare officials to work diligently towards making Nalgonda a district free of maternal and infant mortality. Speaking during a review meeting held at the Collector’s Office on Wednesday, she emphasized the critical role of the Medical and Health Department and related departments in ensuring safe pregnancies and childbirths.

The Collector stressed that negligence in medical services should not lead to any harm to mothers or infants. She urged officials to establish a robust tracking system to monitor pregnant women from conception to delivery and postnatal care. Monthly health check-ups, immunizations, and the provision of nutritional support should be ensured, she said. Additionally, timely deliveries and measures to prevent complications for both the mother and child must be prioritized.

She expressed concern over reports that certain medical shops and hospitals in the district are selling abortion kits without proper prescriptions. The Collector warned that selling or purchasing such kits without medical authorization is illegal and assured strict action against those involved.

The meeting was attended by District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Putla Srinivas, Deputy DMHO Venu Gopal Reddy, District Welfare Officer Krishnaveni, Superintendent of the District General Hospital Dr. Arunakumari, along with other medical officers, ANMs, and ASHA workers. The session focused on actionable steps to ensure the well-being of mothers and children across the district.
