Municipal and Panchayat Elections Likely to be Held Together

Hyderabad, January 3:
The state government plans to conduct municipal elections alongside or shortly after the panchayat elections. With the term of 129 municipalities ending on January 26, elections are expected to be scheduled in late January or early February.
Recently, 12 new municipalities and two corporations (Mahabubnagar and Mancherial) were announced, with a gazette notification expected soon. Boundary expansions for the Karimnagar Corporation and the merger of 58 gram panchayats into suburban municipalities are also underway.
The government is finalizing BC reservations following a caste census, with the Backward Classes Dedication Commission set to submit its report soon. This will enable reservation adjustments for both panchayat and municipal elections.
The government is streamlining preparations to ensure smooth and timely local elections.
