 Bengaluru, January 6

The Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is quietly spreading across the country, causing significant concern after four cases were reported in a single day. Karnataka recorded two cases, while Gujarat and Kolkata each reported one case, according to ICMR.

In Bengaluru, two infants, aged three and eight months, were confirmed to have contracted the virus. Meanwhile, a child in Ahmedabad is undergoing treatment for HMPV-related symptoms. Experts have warned that the symptoms of HMPV are similar to flu and other respiratory infections, including cough, fever, nasal congestion, and breathing difficulties.

The symptoms typically manifest within three to six days after exposure. In response to the outbreak, the Karnataka government has issued strict directives, urging the public to wear masks in public places as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have also advised individuals displaying viral symptoms to seek medical attention immediately and undergo necessary tests. The government emphasized that negligence could lead to severe consequences, issuing strong warnings to ensure public safety.
