Krishna Colony Residents Protest Against Drainage Issues in Mulugu

MULUGU DECEMBER 18

Mulugu: Residents of Krishna Colony staged a protest on Wednesday, halting the ongoing construction of the Bandarupalli R&B road in Mulugu district. They expressed concerns over the improper drainage connections, which they fear could lead to severe flooding in their colony during heavy rains.

The ₹6.3 crore road development project includes a 1-kilometer four-lane road with a 3-foot side drainage system. However, residents are protesting the connection of the side drainage to their existing 1-foot colony drainage system, which they believe is insufficient to handle the increased water flow. The locals pointed out that this would cause severe waterlogging, potentially submerging their homes in the future.

Residents stated that they have repeatedly appealed to higher authorities to address the issue, but no action has been taken so far. They demanded that the side drainage water be diverted to the NH Highway or to the outskirts of the town to prevent flooding in their colony.

Teacher Sudhakar, a resident of Krishna Colony, emphasized that the residents would not allow the construction work to proceed until their concerns are resolved. He said, “We have raised this issue multiple times, but no one has taken action. If this drainage system is connected to our colony, the entire area will be submerged during heavy rains.”

Mohan, another resident, added, “We want the side drainage water to be redirected. Until the issue is resolved, we will continue our protest.”

The protest was supported by several residents, including Mohan, Naveen, Ramesh, Dayakar, Naresh, Rajireddy, Sampath, Velpuri Sathyanarayana, Krishna, Kumar, Mechanic Raj, Sriram Ravi, and Kumar Swamy, who urged officials to take immediate action to address their grievances.
