Today marks four months since the body of a trainee doctor was found at Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College. The tragedy sparked state-wide protests and a hunger strike by junior doctors, but the momentum has since waned.
For months, the family home in Sodpur was under heavy police surveillance, with barricades and interrogations deterring visitors. Now, only three unarmed officers remain stationed outside, and the once-banner-lined streets stand bare. The words of Rabindranath Tagore displayed outside their home remind passersby of the family's grief and resilience.
The victim's parents, struggling with loss and financial strain, have launched a social media page, Truth and Justice: Voice for RG Kar Victim. In an interview, they expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation, highlighting delays by the CBI and inadequate action from the police.
While opposition leaders remain in touch, government representatives and doctors from the hospital have distanced themselves. Allegations of misconduct and threats by state police officials and a hurried cremation against the family’s wishes add to the family's anguish.
Despite setbacks, the parents vow to continue fighting for justice. “We have nothing left to lose,” the mother said, echoing the sentiments of countless protesters who share their frustration. The family calls for accountability and pledges to keep protesting in the streets, believing it’s the only way forward.
They remain grateful to those across India and the world who supported their cause. Even as doubts cloud the investigation, their resolve to seek justice and honor their daughter’s memory remains unwavering.
