Amidst calls to cancel his Indore concert by Bajrang Dal, Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh paid tribute to renowned Urdu poet Rahat Indori. Known for his powerful words, Indori’s poetry resonated through Dosanjh’s performance as he recited the iconic lines: "Kisi ke baap ka Hindustan thodi hai" (Hindustan isn’t anyone’s property). The dedication was part of Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati tour on Sunday.

The ghazal, celebrated for its poignant commentary, gained prominence during the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), symbolizing unity and resistance. Dosanjh quoted it to counter the backlash and to honor the late poet, who hailed from Indore and passed away in 2020.

The Bajrang Dal had approached Indore police demanding the cancellation of the concert, alleging that Dosanjh supported Khalistan and made anti-national remarks during the farmers’ protests. Avinash Kaushal, a leader of the group, stated, “We will not allow someone with such views to hold an event in the city of Maa Ahilya.”

Another leader, Tannu Sharma, shifted the narrative, claiming their protest was against the consumption of drugs and alcohol allegedly associated with such events. “It’s not in our culture to consume drugs. We are against these practices in concerts,” he added.

Despite the controversy, the event proceeded, with Dosanjh using poetry and music to deflect criticism and emphasize unity. The singer’s tribute to Indori struck a chord with his audience, blending cultural reverence with artistic expression amidst the ongoing debates.
