Hyderabad: Sangareddy district police successfully intercepted the illegal transport of 110 kilograms of dry ganja valued at approximately ₹30 lakh, destined for Mumbai, SP C. Rupesh announced during a press conference held at the district police headquarters on Friday.
The operation was carried out as part of a mega vehicle-checking initiative led by Zaheerabad sub-division police. Acting on reliable information, DSP Rammohan Reddy, Inspector Sivalingam, and other officers set up a vehicle checkpoint near the old RTO post along the NH-65 bypass road in Zaheerabad. Around early morning, they attempted to stop a car traveling from Hyderabad towards Mumbai. However, the car sped away and was abandoned a short distance later, with three occupants fleeing the scene. The police managed to apprehend two suspects, identified as Mohammad Akbar and Mohammad Salman, both residents of Zaheerabad’s Shanti Nagar.
The arrested individuals revealed that they were transporting the ganja under the direction of their associates, Nawaz and Shabbir, using a Maruti Swift car bearing registration number MH43X4796. The consignment originated from the Odisha border and was en route to Mumbai. A silver Innova car was leading the way, signaling the Swift to avoid checkpoints.
During the operation, the police seized 27 packets of ganja, each weighing approximately 4 kilograms, along with two mobile phones from the arrested individuals. A case has been registered at the Zaheerabad Town Police Station, and the suspects have been remanded. Efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding accused, including Ismail, Mahboob, and Razak.
SP Rupesh emphasized the department’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and urged citizens to report any related activities to the district SNAB helpline at 8712656777, assuring confidentiality for informants.
The SP commended the officers and staff involved in the successful operation. The press conference was attended by Additional SP A. Sanjeev Rao, DSP Rammohan Reddy, TNAB DSP Pushpan Kumar, Inspector Sivalingam, and other officials.
