Mulugu, January 3:

Mulugu District Collector Divakar T.S. emphasized the importance of following the ideals and inspiration of great reformers while speaking at the grand celebrations of Savitribai Phule Jayanti, held on Friday at the Collectorate conference hall. The event also marked the observance of Women Teachers’ Day, as declared by the Telangana government.

The Collector, along with Additional Collector Sampath Rao and other officials, paid floral tributes to the portrait of Savitribai Phule. Speaking on the occasion, Collector Divakar T.S. praised Savitribai Phule as a remarkable reformer who worked tirelessly for the upliftment of marginalized communities. He highlighted her relentless efforts in promoting girls’ education and breaking the barriers of caste discrimination and untouchability. Savitribai’s journey as India’s first woman teacher, supported by her husband Jyotirao Phule, was described as a beacon of inspiration for all.

The Collector noted that Savitribai Phule’s courage and determination laid the foundation for women’s empowerment and societal change. Her legacy serves as a reminder of the need to eradicate discrimination and inequalities still prevalent in society. He also lauded the state government for recognizing her contributions by officially declaring January 3 as Women Teachers’ Day.

On this occasion, outstanding women teachers were honored for their dedication to education. The awardees included Smt. G. Neeraja, V. Jyothi, J. Mamatha, T. Radhika, K. Bhagyalakshmi, K. Jayasree, C.H. Rani, L. Padma, V. Ramadevi, Parvathala Ramadevi, C.H. Madhuridevi, A. Madhurima, K. Sunitha, G. Lakshmi, Padmavati, Rizwana Kauser Begum, M. Sammakka, and B. Sumalathadevi.

The event witnessed participation from DCEB Secretary E. Suryanarayana, District Science Officer Appani Jayadev, Samagra Shiksha Coordinators Arsham Raju, Katam Mallareddy, Gullapalli Sambayya, G. Ramadevi, Mandal Education Officers Samala Srinivasulu, Keshava Rao, Koyyada Mallayya, Menaka, and Venkateshwarlu, along with representatives from various teachers’ associations and educators from across the district. The celebrations concluded with a resolve to carry forward Savitribai Phule’s legacy for societal progress.
