Mulugu RDO and Divisional Magistrate Officer Venkatesh emphasized that children must take responsibility for their parents’ welfare, failing which their immovable property will be reassigned to the parents under the Senior Citizens Maintenance and Welfare Act. He reiterated that the district administration will strictly enforce the law to protect senior citizens’ rights.

Citing a recent case, he mentioned a complaint filed by Immadi Lakshmi and her husband Sammayya from Mulugu village. They alleged that their son Immadi Nagaraju and daughter-in-law Padma illegally claimed ownership of their 7-acre, 28-gunta agricultural land and failed to care for them while subjecting them to threats. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Section 5(1) of the Senior Citizens Maintenance and Welfare Act, 2007.

Following a hearing held on December 17, it was confirmed that the property had been misappropriated and the parents were neglected. Subsequently, Nagaraju and Padma agreed in writing to pay ₹6,000 per month as maintenance for Lakshmi and her family.

RDO Venkatesh urged senior citizens to report any neglect or harassment to the authorities, assuring strict action under the law.
