January 24, Adilabad
In response to the rising number of farmer suicides, a study committee led by BRS leaders and former ministers visited the families of deceased farmers in Adilabad. The committee’s visit focused on understanding the issues faced by farmers and the impact of government policies, particularly regarding loan waivers and the lack of benefits from government schemes such as the Rythu Bandhu.
The committee, led by Chairman Niranjan Reddy and including senior leaders like former minister Jogu Ramanna, conducted a field visit to the villages of Reenigunta and Yapal Guda. They met with farmers and reviewed their crop fields, including chili and groundnut plantations. Farmers expressed their deep concerns about the non-receipt of Rythu Bandhu and the increasing challenges in accessing loan waivers. Several farmers shared their distress, highlighting the government’s failure to fulfill its promises, which had led to an increase in suicides.
The committee met with the family of Jadhav Dev Rao, a farmer who recently committed suicide due to financial distress. During the visit, Jogu Ramanna provided financial assistance of ₹1 lakh from the BRS party as support to the bereaved family.
Chairman Niranjan Reddy expressed his disappointment with the government’s handling of farmer welfare, criticizing Congress for misleading the farmers with false promises and causing immense hardship. He emphasized that farmers had been living in dignity during the previous BRS government, but under the current administration, they are facing severe difficulties. He also questioned the government’s lack of a clear vision and the failure to address the problems at the grassroots level.
The study committee’s visit aimed to provide moral support to the affected families and to raise awareness about the dire conditions of farmers. Niranjan Reddy and other committee members reiterated their commitment to continuing the fight for farmers’ rights until justice is served.
The committee was joined by other leaders including Janardhan, Alal Ajay, Yasam Nursing Rao, Ijjagiri Narayana, Chandala Rajanna, Battu Sathish, Pramod Reddy, Gambhir Takri, Sathish Power, Tanveer Swaroop, Mamatha Karuna, Adap Tirupathi, and Ugge Vittal.
