JANUARY 24, Amaravati
Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, P. Narayana, expressed frustration over the previous government’s handling of Amaravati, accusing them of turning it into a wasteland. He emphasized that under the current leadership, construction activities in Amaravati will be expedited starting from the second week of February. Minister Narayana, along with officials, reviewed the ongoing work at Neelapadu, where critical infrastructure like the administrative towers and the high court foundations are underway.
Minister Narayana pointed out that the previous government had left major construction works, including the administrative towers and the high court foundation, submerged due to waterlogging. These issues are now being addressed, with efforts underway to drain the water and proceed with the construction work. He also mentioned that the land pooling notification for the capital city was issued in January 2015, and within just 58 days, 34,000 acres of land were handed over by the farmers without any issues. This cooperation from farmers was instrumental in kickstarting the development of the capital, which is aimed to be one of the top 5 cities globally.
The Minister also discussed the iconic buildings planned for Amaravati, including the assembly building, administrative towers, and the high court, which will cover a total area of 1.4 million square feet. Designs have been finalized, with plans for the GAD Tower to be 48 stories tall, covering 17.3 million square feet. The Assembly will be built with a height of 250 meters, designed with tourism and public engagement in mind. The Minister assured that construction activities would resume at full speed, despite challenges faced under the previous government.
He also mentioned that after the arrival of the current government, agreements have been made for investments worth billions of rupees, and the interest from industrialists following Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Davos signals positive growth for the state.
The Minister’s visit highlights the government’s continued efforts to restore and expedite development in Amaravati, focusing on creating a world-class infrastructure that will propel the state to global prominence.
