Adivasis Demand Basic Amenities in Adilabad

Adilabad | January 02,

Under the leadership of Tudum Debba Mandal Committee and Komaram Bheem Colony Management Committee, a massive rally was organized on Thursday in Adilabad, demanding immediate provision of electricity under the Gruha Jyothi scheme for the residents of Komaram Bheem Colony. Carrying broken bulbs as a symbol of protest, hundreds of Adivasis marched from Komaram Bheem Colony to the Collector’s office and staged a sit-in before submitting a memorandum to the Adilabad Joint Collector.

State Co-Convener Godam Ganesh and District Secretary Manoj expressed their grievances, questioning, “Is it a crime to be born as Adivasis in this society? While areas around Adilabad district headquarters have electricity, why are Adivasis deprived of it?” They highlighted the struggles faced by Adivasis living without electricity for over 11 years, battling venomous creatures and living in fear every night.

The memorandum urged Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to take immediate action with compassion and provide electricity, drinking water, roads, education, and healthcare facilities to the residents of Komaram Bheem Colony. The protesters lamented that despite multiple visits to the Collector’s office, their pleas were ignored. They stated that they reside in government land and moved to urban areas for their children’s education, but the lack of basic amenities has severely impacted their lives.

The leaders warned that if their demands are not met soon, they would intensify their protests and even march to Hyderabad’s Prajabhavan with thousands of Adivasis. They urged the government to recognize their plight and provide justice by addressing their demands immediately.

Participants in the rally included Tudum Debba State Co-Convener Godam Ganesh, District Secretary Manoj, Women’s Association District President Renuka, and others.
